COORDINATE, do NOT match!

Super important! If we all wear the exact same colour shirt and pants, it doesn't show our wonderful different personalities within the family!

Start with pattern you want one person to wear. This can be a plaid, floral, or design of some kind. Once this is picked out, pick other colours WITHIN the pattern to start the next person's outfit.

Coordinating your clothes is an easy way to ensure your family will look like they belong, without outright matching.

be yourself, & comfortable!

This is key. Wearing something you feel comfortable in is such a huge part of having your photos taken!

Comfortable in terms of: easy to do different poses in, AND actually feels like something you'd pick out and wear.

neutrals = timeless

I'm sure you're sick of seeing the term "neutrals" everywhere...

But from a photography standpoint, they are our best friend.

The reason?

Because light travels... neutrals don't bounce crazy hues and tones off your faces! With editing, it's so much easier to edit with neutral tones. They photos 'age' really well too!

layer/ texture/ accessorize

Adding texture is always such a great way to add warmth and finesse to your family photos.

This can be adding a knitted/ribbed top, cardigan, jacket, etc.

Layering can be a great way to get a few different styles/outfits out of your session! Sling that jean jacket over your shoulder, or getting your partner to shimmy that cardigan off your shoulders...helllloooooo ;)

Lastly, accessorizing with a few pieces of special jewelry like a watch, necklaces, rings etc is always such a unique and personal touch.
